If you have found the applications installed on your Roku getting crashed or frozen quite often, then there could be a problem with those applications. So, what you are going to do is close those applications that are creating problems and open those, which you think are working fine.
If all the applications are crashing or freezing, then you will have to reboot your device. You can do this by unplugging your Roku device, then waiting for a few seconds before plugging the device back again.
Roku’s firmware is out of date
The firmware at which your Roku device is operating could be out of date, and Roku isn’t able to get the new updates. If you are dealing with this particular problem, then you can easily fix this by going to the home screen followed by ‘Settings’.
Under ‘Settings’ option, you need to select ‘System’ > ‘System Update’ > ‘Check Now’. If there is an update available, then you need to download and install the update and then, check the functionality of the apps.

Firewall is blocking the connection with your Roku device update server
If your Roku device is not being updated, then it could be due to the firewall. You will have to disable the firewall, which you can easily do by logging into your Router settings. If you have a Windows device, then you need to launch your web browser followed by connecting the same to 192.168.1.1 (the default IP address).
Find the firewall section in the control panel, and then click it to turn off the firewall.
TV isn’t communication with Roku update server
If your TV isn’t connecting with Roku update server. To resolve this problem, you can connect to the secret screen and update from that screen. In order to get to the secret screen, you will have to use your Roku remote.
Press ‘home’ button five times, ‘fast forward’ button three times, and ‘rewind’ button two times. Next, scroll to the ‘update software’ followed by clicking ‘Ok’.
