Outstanding wireless range for the price. Yes, both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands are performing well. Easily cover whole double storey semi-D house even on 5 GHz band with router located at middle 1st floor. Yes, budget router can’t even get 5 GHz signal at end of the kitchen. As for 5 GHz throughput performance test, smartphone with 2×2 Wi-Fi was being used. Devices with 4×4 Wi-Fi will get better result then.

  Compare Asus RT-AX86U vs RT-AC86U

You can get 500 Mbps easily when near to router. And at least 300 Mbps for all the area on 1st floor. For ground floor, speed is slower which is expected. But much better when compared to UniFi bundled router. 6X performance increased.

LAN performs

As for LAN, it performs at the maximum speed that my devices can support at 940 Mbps. Just plug in a USB 3.0 hard drive, you can share photo, video and music on your network then. Transfer rate is decent at 40 MB/s for both reading and writing. SAMBA and FTP are supported. Having the 3rd band is like having a dedicated wireless router for yourself. Yes, you can enjoy fast performance on this gaming band while others are using 1st and 2nd bands.

As you can see, a slightly slower transfer rate is what you will get when using a dedicated gaming band. Much better than using the same band that you need to share half or even more resource with others. Need to have maximum whole-house Wi-Fi coverage?

Simple, just install D-Link DRA-2060 AC2000 Mesh-Enabled Range Extender will do. 13X improvement at end of the kitchen compared to single router setup. And the great news, it is using the same SSID thanks to D-Link Wi-Fi Mesh technology. In addition, you can connect it to your PC, TV or game console through LAN cable too.
